Calculate flow requirements
for pneumatic valves

This calculator allows you to compute the minimum flow (Cv) specification for a pneumatic valve based on the requirements of the cylinder controlled by the valve, the available inlet pressure, and the allowable pressure drop in the valve.

Instructions:

  • Select the bore size of your cylinder from the drop down box, and enter the cylinder stroke in inches.
  • Enter the inlet pressure going to the valve, and the allowable pressure drop in the valve. The latter is normally set to a default of 5 PSI, but you can change it to meet special requirements.
  • Enter the maximum acceptable stroke time in seconds for the cylinder to move its load.
  • Click on the "Calculate" button.

The minimum flow requirement Cv will appear. To recalculate based on different input values, simply change the parameter(s) you wish to vary, and click on "Calculate" once again.
